    About BJJ

Brazilian jiu jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Brazilian jiu jitsu eventually came to be its own art through the experiments, practices, and adaptation of judo through Carlos and Helio Gracie as well as other instructors who were students of Master Mitsudo Maeda, such as Luiz Franca. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground, and then applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the opponent. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi ....

  • Are you eating for the wrong sex

Something to think about for 2018. Is what you are eating making you more or less a man or woman? (Shut up you "how dare you assume my identity people" ) I went to see a personal trainer who is also a competitor in body building. We talked about food more than weights as he pointed out a lot of diets really suit women over men and visa versa. If you are struggling with your diet and getting the benefits you want maybe this is something you should look at. So far I have lost 6kgs in last 6 or so weeks. Here is a link to look at Click here ....

  • Hands up or hand out

Is your guard up or your hand out? Over the years, I’ve demonstrated to different groups how your attitude can affect others. It is very easy to do. Here is how it works. I call a person up to the front of the room and ask to give me their first reaction to my action. After they agree, I step toward them and put my guard up in an aggressive fashion. Inevitably, they respond by putting their guard up, too. Next, I extend my hand out in friendship. They always respond in turn. Finally, I ask them to put their guard up. When it is up, I extend out my hand in friendship. They always give me a blank stare, followed by a handshake. The point of this drill is to make everyone aware ....

  • Train till you puke

Does Puking During A Workout Mean You Are Awesome? “Oh man, I worked out so hard I puked!” This statement makes its way around the exercise community. It is typically stated by an individual who is proud of their effort given during a great workout. But is vomiting a good thing? No! Vomiting before, during, or after exercise is NOT a good thing. If you throw up during a workout then there are two things happening: one is that you are pushing yourself too hard, and second, you are not in good enough shape to handle the workout you are doing. Throwing up is sometimes worn as a badge of honor; you work hard, then harder, then you push yourself harder because you are awesome, ....

  • The end picture

Look long term for you and your children. Most know I have been teaching martial arts at Mandurah high schools for over 20 years now. I have had the chance to see the sort of students a lot of schools have. Based on this first hand knowledge of the high schools I picked one for my children before I even had children. The reason is that I want my children to have the values that these high school kids have. BUT as Odin enters this school at Kindy and now pre primary I have som ... e issues with small things and I start to doubt my own choice. Well last week I taught some high school kids at a school camp from this school and again I am impressed with how these kids act and the values ....
